FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. I printed my big file and it's perfect, but when I look at it close up on the screen, it looks funny.

A. Yes, depending on how small your original was, and how large you made it, the file can look a bit chiseled or slightly different on the screen. Our computer screens only have so many dots per inch, and the screen cannot interpret our mini-pixels perfectly. The program has to literally invent or redraw each pixel based on what it estimates the space in between the original pixels actually should be. Not to worry though, it will print just fine. The magic is in the printing.

Q. Why do I have to wait for my files. Why don't they come back instantly.

A. Each file you send us has to be processed one at a time, so when you send it, we run it through our Pixel Terminator software and send it back to you. Processing large files can take some time, but we try to have files back to you as soon as possible. No file should take longer than 24 hours to process. We do our best to have files returned within the hour.

We work hard to make sure each file is processed correctly, but there are some files that will not process correctly. For this reason we have added a "Fairness button" that gives you the chance to credit yourself anytime you are not satisfied.

Q. I've seen the results of Pixel Terminator, what is going to stop someone from stealing images right off the web now that they can be enlarged so perfectly?

A. Pixel Terminator was developed by an artist/programmer who is deeply concerned with this issue. In order to discourage theft, we do several things.

1. Verify customer email address.

2. Instantly freeze an account if a copyright violation complaint is made.

3. Require copyright compliance agreement at sign-up.

4. We make it very clear in our Privacy Policy that Privacy Rights do not pertain once a valid complaint about copyright infringement occurs. We will support the artist with information to pursue legal action against any theft.

5. Provide Pixel Terminator as a service, and not release software that could be reproduced or reverse engineered. In this way we are able to maintain control over who uses this service.

In short, there is no sure fire way to stop people from stealing, but we will make it as difficult as possible.

Q. What happens with my enlarged files. Does Pixel Terminator store these files?

A. Our web site keeps track of every members uploads and downloads. We store these records each month as well as the image files. We keep these records for the sole purpose of being able to verify copyright infringement complaints and as documentation for the benefit of the offended artist. If someone uses our service to enlarge your work, we will verify with our records, freeze the account and begin auditing the records of that account. If we determine that an infringement has occurred, we will package and notarize the information and send to the artist lodging the complaint. WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ABUSE OF COPYRIGHT.

Q. Do I need Photoshop or some other program to use Pixel Terminator?

A. No. The completed files you download from us are ready to print. However, it is always a good idea to check out your photos if you can. Remember, Pixel Terminator does not clean or focus files. It enlarges without pixelation only. If your original is unfocused, or unclear in some way, the enlarged version will be as well.

Q. I need a custom size. You only offer 30, 50 and 75 inches wide. If I need an image 60 inches wide, should I get a 50 inch enlargement and enlarge it myself?

A. No, enlarging it yourself will only compromise the quality. Have it done at 75 inches and then reduce it yourself down to 60 inches. Reducing our file will not hurt the quality. Keep in mind that the bigger the file is that you send us, the better it will be at the 100 inch size. Yes, it can make 550 pixel file into a 7500 pixel file without pixelation, but you may begin to have other problems the eye can't see at 550 pixels. For a 50 inch enlargement, we recommend an 8 to 12 inch original. Note: It won't work to blow up a 550 pixel file to 8 inches then send to us. We would rather have the original 550 pixel untouched file to work with.
